Bed rails are used extensively in care environments to prevent bed occupants falling out of bed and injuring themselves. Bed rail bumpers are primarily used to prevent impact injuries but they can also reduce the potential for limb entrapment when securely affixed to the bed or rail. Bed rail bumpers should also be air permeable so they do not present a suffocation risk.

Entrapment is a common problem in beds with rails and the range available has been designed within the MHRA's anti-entrapment requirement. Our range of bed rail protectors are made to individually fit each type of bed rail; support correct nursing practice; do not need to be removed to operate the bed rail and can be integrated into existing equipment provision.

Bed safety equipment can prevent bed occupants falling from their beds if care is taken to:

Undertake a risk assessment

Assemble and fit correctly to compatible bed and mattress

Maintain equipment, set up preventative maintenance programme and ensure traceability

Train staff, carers and users

Reassess regularly

Ensure documentation, policies and procedures in place and communicate to all
